Seminar on BARC Outreach Programme organized at GNDU
Amritsar, October 14: A Seminar on the topic “BARC Outreach Programme” was organized in the Placement Department of the university. The main speakers were Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Head, Chemical Quality Control, Nuclear Fuel Group and Dr. Musharaf Ali, Head Laboratories Service Section, Chemical Engineering Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai. Students of M.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc. Physics, and various departments of Life Sciences and Engineering faculty participated in the seminar.
BARC is running a One-year Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Post Graduates (OCES) at Mumbai, Kalpakkam, Indore and Hyderabad to train them to pursue a career in various units of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). As a part of this programme, engineering graduates and science post-graduates are selected every year and get absorbed in DAE units (BARC, AERB, NPCIL, NFC, etc) after the successful completion of one-year OCES training. The candidates for OCES programme are selected on the basis of Selection Interviews held during May- June every year. Candidates are screened in for the Selection Interviews based on a GATE score or on the basis of their performance in an Online Examination conducted by the BARC Training Schools.
GNDU is one of the few institutes selected by BARC for creating awareness regarding this program. Dr. Amit Chopra, Asstt. Placement Officer said that the seminar was very useful for the students with the objective to educate and enlighten young minds.
