Kartarpur Sahib not merely a Gurdwara, but a centre of Truth-Exemplars
Guru Nanak established it as Ideal Town of Devine Values
Amritsar April 1, 2019: Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Guru Nanak Dev University organized a special lecture dedicated to the 550 years birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Harinder Singh USA, co-founder of the Sikh Research Institute and the Panjab Digital Library was the guest speaker. He started his views by raising some important questions as what really happened at Kartarpur Sahib? How this village in two decades became the centre of Guru Nanak Sahib’s Ik Oankar – 1Force – paradigm in the early 16th century?
S. Harinder Singh answered the aforesaid questions as envisioned in the primary source Guru Granth Sahib as well as locating it in the secondary sources like Varan of Bhai Gurdas. He also shared details on how once Karatarpur was founded in 1515 A.D, how it became a sanctuary in 1518A.D, and eventually the head-quarter of the Panth. This is where Guru Nanak Sahib lived with his family and trained the Sikhs for more than two decades to establish the Nam culture. When the community flourished, it was organized at Kartarpur. The succession plan was carried by enthroning Bhai Lahina to Guru Angad to unify the Panth with jot-jugat (wisdom-method) at Kartarpur Sahib as well. Details were shared on the terrain of the Panjab. It concluded with locating how to locate Kartarpur Corridor in contemporary India and Pakistan politics. Ask was to not reduce Kartarpur Sahib but merely a gurdwara, rather re-establish Kartarpur Sahib by becoming Truth-Exemplars.
Dr. Amarjit Singh, Director of the Center for Studies in Guru Granth Sahib, welcomed the speaker and other dignitaries. Dr. Jaswant Singh Singapore, Prof. Amar Singh, Dr. Bharatbir Kaur Sandhu, Dr. Muhabat Singh, research scholars, and students were present on the occasion.
