Indian Council of Philosophical Research held Three-Day National Seminar to mark 550 Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev at GNDU
Amritsar, 13 Feb 2019: The 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev is being celebrated with great zeal and religious fervour all over the world. It is heartening to note that Govt. of Punjab and Govt. of India has chalked out various programs to mark this solemn occasion. To pay its homage to the Great Guru, Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi has hosted a three day National Seminar on Guru Nanak’s Socio-Political Philosophy and Its Contemporary Relevance from 13-15 February 2019. It held in the auditorium of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Prof. Balwant Singh Dhillon, Director founder of this centre has inaugurated the seminar. Prof. N. Muthu Mohan, Former Head and Professor, Department of Guru Nanak Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu has presented the Keynote Address. A large number of scholars from Assam, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and other Universities of the Northern region has participated and will be presented their scholarly papers. Besides, a good number of delegates belonging to different colleges, academic institutions and religious organizations are taking part in the deliberations over this three-day seminar.
The Director of CSSGGS of Dr Amarjit Singh has given the welcome address. He explained the progress of the centre and about the seminar schedule.
In the inaugural address, Dr Balwant Singh Dhillon explained about the socio-political outlook of Guru Nanak. He explained the nature of Guru Nanak’s religious experience that a person should never compromise with the social evil. Guru Nanak mandate to eradicate it from all walk of life.
Dr N. Muthu Mohan presented the keynote address. He spoke about the concept of Oneness in Guru Nanak’s Philosophy. Guru Nanak’s Philosophy of Oneness has directed the people in the new path of love, community living consent and equality.
Dr Balkar Singh was the Guest of Honour. He spoke about the philosophy of Guru Nanak in a spiritual way. He explained that Religion has a big role in human’s life which works as a bridge between spirituality and culture.
At the end, Prof. T.S. Benipal, Dean college Development council; has presided the session. He spoke about the ethics of Guru Nanak Dev, he also given the stress on the basic teachings; ‘Kirat Karo’, ‘Naam Japo’, ‘Vand Chako’ of Guru Nanak Dev.
