CBI questions Rajive Kumar and Kunal Ghosh for third straight day
Shillong/Kolkata, Feb 11 (HS): In spite of the marathon questioning of Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajive Kumar by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials for the third day today since 9 February at the CBI office at Shillong, several questions regarding his alleged involvement in destroying important documents of Rs 17,000 crore Sarada Chit Fund scam remained unanswered till this evening. According to reports reaching here this evening, quoting CBI sources from Shilliong, it ordered to extract real and truthful information from the Police Commissioner, the CBI officials also asked former Trinamool Congress MP and journalist Kunal Ghosh to appear before them at the same spot for replying a number of unanswered questions by sitting face to face with Kumar for several hours since yesterday and to verify several replies of both the persons. A list of a total of 300 odd questions were prepared by CBI for both Kumar and Ghosh and they had been asked to give their reply for each of them, sometimes separately and sometime sitting face to face in presence of several senior investigating officials, the sources said but refused to disclose further and on whether any dramatic or sensational information was revealed by either of them till today. Since his arrival in the capital city of Meghalaya on Saturday Kumar had reportedly been extending full cooperation to the investigation of the multi crore rupee scam by appearing before the top CBI officials in every morning and remained closeted with them till late at night to reply to their queries from different angels.
It was alleged that as the former Chief of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Sarada Chit Fund scam, Rajive Kumar was responsible for allegedly destroying a number of important documents along with all important records from five mobile phones, one laptop and several pen drives which were recovered and seized from the Chief of Sarada Chit Fund Sudipto Sen and his deputy Debjani Mukherjee following their arrest in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014. Kunal Ghosh who was earlier arrested by the Central Agency for his alleged involvement in the same scam and severed a jail term of nearly two years before he was released on bail last year, was also asked to appear before the CBI investigating officials at Shillong yesterday. Like Kumar, he was also questioned for a long time separately both yesterday and today. He was also asked to face the Police Commissioner in the same room to reply some specific queries in his presence to bring out the truth. As the question answer session of both the persons was still being continued till 7 p.m. tonight, it was not yet known whether they would be asked to appear before the CBI investigation team once again and for how long to reply more questions, the sources said. It may be recalled that Chief minister Mamata Banerjee tried to prevent Kumar from facing the CBI in connection with the Sarada scam and sat in a three day long Satyagraga in the Metro Channel in Kolkata along with her party leaders in a desperate move. But following a judgement of the Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi Kumar was rather forced to appear before the Central Investigation Agency in a neutral place like Shillong to reply to their multiple queries.
