Death toll in spurious liquor tragedy rises to 27 while official figures put it to 20

The number of people who died after drinking poisonous liquor in Balupur village of Bhagwanpur in Roorkee has increased to 27. However, the administration has so far confirmed the death of only 20 people. Sources claim that till now 27 people have died. Meanwhile, there is scarcity of food materials and other essential commodities in the affected and other villages including Balupur.

For the past two days,nobody cooked any food in these villages. The government has declared a compensation of Rupees two lakh for the dependents of the deceased and a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the affected people. Now, the administration has adopted a tough stance in this matter. On Saturday, DM Deepak Rawat and SSP Janmaijaya Khanduri raided several villages in the district. During these raids illegal liquor has been recovered.These deaths have been caused by drinking country made liquor in the program of Thirteenth day rituals in Balupur village of Godpur police station area of ​​Roorkee adjacent to UP and Uttarakhand. Many people are still seriously ill.They are undergoing treatment in the hospitals. District Collector Deepak Rawat said that the treatment of sick people is going on in different hospitals. So far 20 people have died. Serious people are being transported to Higher Center AIIMS and Civil Hospital. He said that for the disclosure of the real reasons, the remains of the deceased are being investigated. Strict action is being taken against illegal liquor dealers in the district. Intensive checking campaign is in progress. SSP Janmajaya Khanduri says that the campaign has been started with the police. The number of deaths has increased to 20. Uttar Pradesh and Block Police have started a joint campaign to trace those who are involved in illegal liquor business.
