Amritsar, July 06: Adding another feather to its cap, the faculty members of Guru Nanak Dev University has managed to earn two more courses in the third phase of the prestigious GIAN programme of Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Govt. of India. Global Initiative of Academic Network (GIAN) programme was started by the MHRD in the year 2016 and it was aimed at providing international exposure to the university students by inviting overseas expert faculty for one or two weeks for delivering a series of lectures on a particular topic. Being in the category of A-star universities, Guru Nanak Dev University was among the few topmost institutions of the country which were given the option of starting GIAN programme.
Prof. Palwinder Singh, the local coordinator of GIAN programme said that the different faculty members of the University framed the proposals on various topics of students’ interest in collaboration with the foreign faculty and through a stringent screening by the national committee earned 14 GIAN courses in the first two phases of this programme during the period 2016-2019.
These courses were run by the faculties from Department of Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology, Food Sciences, Architecture and Botanical Sciences for which the expert faculty from USA, Canada, UK, Denmark, Germany and Japan was invited. Our students were most benefitted of these courses. Now, during the third phase of the GIAN programme, the University faculty have submitted about ten proposals which are in the evaluation phase. So far, in the third phase, our University has been awarded two GIAN courses in the faculty of Computer Sciences and Physics for which Dr. Kuljit Kaur and Dr. Aman Mahajan will be the coordinators and Dr. G. Robles from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid and Prof. Jean-Michel Nunzi from Queen’s University Canada are the Resource persons. These courses are scheduled in the near future. We are expecting the clearance of more courses from the ministry.
While appreciating the efforts of the faculty members, Prof. Palwinder Singh also applauded the dynamism, vision and integrity of the vice-chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu in building state of the art infrastructure and providing academic freedom to the faculty members due to which Guru Nanak Dev University is the only among the state Universities of the country to get the approval of so many GIAN courses.
