GNDU organized Webinar on “Spectroscopy Solutions for Elemental Analysis”

Amritsar, June 08, 2020 ( ) – Guru Nanak Dev University under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu is aimed to continue learning process for students and researchers during the lockdown phase too. Keeping this in mind, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences of the University in collaboration with Agilent technologies organized a webinar on “Spectroscopy Solutions for Elemental Analysis”. Elemental composition in biosphere is being altered at an accelerated rate due to various anthropogenic activities, considering the toxicity of most of these metals and it becomes important to regularly monitor their presence in the ambient environment. The webinar covered various spectroscopic solutions for elemental analysis.

Over 500 participants registered for the webinar and more than 230 participants from GNDU and various other universities and educational institutions actively participated in the webinar and various queries were answered by the experts.

The webinar was coordinated by Prof. Avinash Kaur Nagpal and Dr. Jatinder Kaur of the Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences and Mr. Chandra Rajwar, Product Specialist, Agilent Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. Prof. Avinash Kaur Nagpal welcomed the participants. Prof. Renu Bhardwaj, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences and Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof. Bhardwaj wished the webinar a grand success and in her introductory speech, she mentioned about significance of various elements present in the biosphere, she also pointed out the need to quantify the trace quantities of metals present in various environmental samples.

Mr. Gaurav Kapadnis, Application Engineer, Agilent technologies gave a detailed presentation on various techniques available to estimate various environmental samples for different element. In his elaborative and descriptive approach, he also discussed various sample preparation methods and principles behind working of different available instruments like AAS, MP-AES, ICP-MS etc. under Agilent banner.

Prof. Saroj Arora, Prof. Satwinderjeet Kaur, Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig and Dr. Rajinder Kaur also graced the webinar. Various faculty members of the university also attended the webinar. Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor congratulated the faculty members for organizing the Webinar. In the concluding remarks, Dr. M. S. Bhatti, Head, Department of Botanical and Environemntal Sciences, thanked the experts and participants.
