Syndicate Meeting held at Guru Nanak Dev University
Amritsar, August 29, 2019: The Syndicate meeting of the Guru Nanak Dev University was held here today in the Syndicate Room of the University. Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor presided over the meeting while Prof. K.S Khalon, Registrar presented the agenda. Prof. S.S. Behl, Dean Academic Affairs and a large number of members of Syndicate were present to discuss various issues. Approval of new courses, change in the name of courses & colleges, re-appointments, study leave etc. were the main agenda in the meeting. As many as 50 PhD degrees were also approved in this meeting.
Syndicate accorded its approval to change the name of Guru Nanak Dev University Regional Campus, Fattu Dhinga to Bebe Nanki University College For Girls. Starting of Co- education at GRD College for Women, Phagwara has also been approved by the syndicate. Syndicate approved the appointment of Dr. Ranjit Singh Ghuman, Professor of Economics, Centre for Research in Rural & Industrial Development a “Professor of Eminence” in Guru Nanak Dev University Campus. Keeping in view the wide appreciation by all quarters of the society as well other officials, Coffee Table Book launched by the University on the eve of Golden Jubilee, Convocation Year will be sold through Amazon India.
To expand its reach to faraway students in the world to teach Punjabi and other subjects, approval has also been granted to Start Online Studies through technical services provided by experts from all over India under the Directorate of Online Studies. Now the Public Relations Office will work under the Head of the Department of Journalism And Mass Communication for all intents and purposes. This decision will be helpful in the training and practical exposure to the students of Mass Communication.
While addressing the members Prof. Sandhu highlighted the various achievements of the university. He said that during the last two years all the facilities for the benefit of students, faculty and employees were initiated and multifaced developments to meet international challenges took place. He added that this year many foreign students also took admission in the university.
S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Cabinet Minister, Cooperation and Jails, Mr. Amit Vij, MLA Pathankot, Prof. Ved Parkash, Former Chairman UGC, New Delhi, Prof. S.S. Chahal, Former Vice-Chancellor, Maharana Partap Agricultural University, Udaipur were present in the meeting and presented their views and suggestions along with other members.
Prof. Sandhu thanked the syndics and exhorted all to play pro-active role in further progress of the University.
Earlier, Prof. Sandhu welcomed the newly joined members and lauded the contribution of outgoing members for the development of University.
