Outdoor Gyms inaugurated at different places in Guru Nanak Dev University
Amritsar, May 13: Guru Nanak Dev University has its own identity in the field of sports, as 23 times winner of MAKA Trophy is committed for the good health of students while studying. To fulfil this objective, Vice – Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu gifted outdoor Gyms for the convenience of students to get healthy and fit anytime anywhere. These Gyms were formally inaugurated by Prof. Sandhu and Prof. Dr. Shweta Shenoy, Head MAYAS – GNDU Department of Sports Sciences and Medicine here today at various locations at the university campus in the presence of students, faculty and employees.

Prof. Dr. Sarbjot Singh Behl, Registrar Prof. Dr. Karanjit Singh Kahlon, Dean Student Welfare Department Prof. Dr. Hardeep Singh, Director Sports, Dr. Sukhdev Singh, in-charge campus sports, Dr. Amandeep Singh, Assistant Director Sports, Kanwar Mandip Singh Lodi Nangal, Dr. Shalini Behl, Dr. Jantidar Kaur, Dr. Varinder Kaur, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Dr. Satnam Singh Deol, Dr. Paramvir Singh Malli and wardens of various other hostels were also present.
Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu said that these Gyms will be beneficial not only for students but for the natives of the campus also. He said that for good mind, healthy body is a must and with the instalation of outdoor Gyms the students can do exercise as per their convenience.
As many as 6 outdoor gymnasiums were set up at the various locations at the university with the cost of Rs.30 lakhs, out of which 2 Gyms near girls hostels, 2 gyms near boys hostels and 2 gymnasiums have been installed at prime locations to facilitate all.
The exercising machines installed included rowing machines, double cross walkers, air walkers, pull pushchairs, rest wheels, iron press, pull down, shoulder press, stand-up racks, press machines etc. The weight exercises with these machines can be increased and reduced as desired. There is no effect of the sun or rain and cold on these machines as they are installed in open.
