Guru Nanak Dev University Improves its NIRF Ranking to 55th
Amritsar, April 09, 2019: Guru Nanak Dev University has been ranked 55th in the NIRF-2019 ranking, under the category of Universities, as released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development yesterday. This ranks the University among the top 5% Institutes of the country. In the Punjab region, the only other University which ranked higher at 51st position is Punjab Agricultural University which is purely an Agricultural University. Punjabi University, Patiala has been ranked in the band of 151-200.
Guru Nanak Dev University has been progressively improving in its NIRF ranking over the last three years. It has moved up from the ranking band of 101-250 in 2017, to 86th in 2018 and 81st in 2019 in “Overall Category”, in spite of the increase in the total number of participating institutes from 724 to 957 to 1479 over the years. The “Overall category” includes IITs, IIM’s, IISER’s, Central Universities, State Universities, Colleges and Private Institutes.
It has also improved its ranking under the “University category”, which includes Central, State and Private Universities, from 80th out of 228 in 2017, to 59th out of 296 in 2018 to 55th out of 303 in 2019. Guru Nanak Dev University has secured a place for itself among the top 100 Universities in which only 25 are from the Northern region. Ranking of educational institutes in NIRF is very competitive and the institutes are judged on their performance in teaching, research, professional practices, graduation outcomes and perception.
Professor Jaspal Singh Sandhu credited this success to the hard work of the University’s teachers and students and said that without being complacent we will work even harder to improve our ranking and achieve global recognition. The University is starting many new need-based courses in the coming academic year like new courses in Journalism & Mass Communication, Agriculture etc. In addition, dual degree courses with foreign Universities are also in the offing.
