GNDU  to conduct Ph.D.Viva-Voce through Video-Conferencing

Amritsar, 11 Feb: Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar is the first university in the region to start the Viva-Voce examination of the Ph.D. students through Video conferencing/ Skype. Already two viva-voce examinations have been conducted in the Departments of Human Genetics and Electronics Technology in the last week in which the examiners examined the scholars and the whole process was recorded for records. As it is an open viva in which the other faculty members and students have to attend, a special Video- Conferencing facility have been created in the Dean Academic Affairs’ office for the same.

The advantage of having viva by video conferencing is that once the examiner is appointed the viva can be conducted in the shortest possible time, thus the degrees of the Ph.D. scholars can be awarded as soon as possible after the evaluation reports are received. As the eminent examiners are short of time there has been much delay in conduction of viva and this delay has been curtailed by this procedure. It also saves the examiners time and energy who would earlier visit the university for conduction of viva. The university on its own level as an austerity measure would be saving on the unnecessary expenditure on the travel of the examiners. Added advantage to this is that it would now be possible to appoint examiners of far off institutes of national repute and foreign examiners for conduction of viva.
